Become a Volunteer
Tatton currently has approximately 50 garden volunteers working throughout the gardens on a variety of tasks, from hands-on gardening to stewarding.
We are continually expanding our volunteer scheme to include some hands-on work in the pleasure grounds, with jobs ranging from raking moss in the Japanese garden to dead-heading roses in the Edwardian rose garden and many other jobs besides.
Japanese Garden tour guides
We are looking to recruit a couple of volunteers to join the Saturday team of Japanese garden tour guides. A guided tour always adds to visitor experience and as the Japanese Garden can only be accessed during a tour then it makes this service important as visitors come from all over the country to see this very special example of a Japanese garden.
It would mean a commitment to one Saturday each month of high season, that is through April till the end of October, with tours running at 11.30 and 1.30 and lasting approximately 50 minutes. Our team will be happy to meet with anyone interested to explain duties further. No previous knowledge of Japanese gardening is required just the enjoyment of meeting people and sharing the experience of being within the garden. Please bear in mind that the garden does have uneven surfaces, narrow pathways and steps. Further explanation of the role and training would be given between January and March. We always work in pairs and you will receive support from the existing team if you decide to pursue the role.
If you are interested in joining our keen group of volunteers, please contact us at tatton@cheshireeast.gov.uk or call 01625 374400 or by post to:
