The Mansion

History of the Mansion

An opportunity to explore the rich history of the Mansion, about its significant collections, and learn more about the innovative Egerton family who made Tatton Park their home for over 300 years. Join our knowledgeable guide as they take you through each room, from the grandeur of the State Rooms and magnificent Cupola Hall to the cosy Sitting Room of the Housekeeper’s domestic quarters.

This tour allows groups to enjoy a private visit of the entire Mansion while listening to fascinating stories of life here over four centuries.

Tatton's Treasured Collections

An intimate behind the scenes tour.

A fascinating insight into the secret treasures and artefacts usually hidden from public view, with expert interpretation from our mansion guides. Take a peek within the beautiful Italian jewel cabinet, or at one of our first edition Jane Austen books from the vast library. Get up close with our recently uncovered Rosalba pastel portrait or learn more about the extensive collection of Gillows of Lancaster furniture.

This tour highlights and focuses on key features of the Mansion collection on the ground floor only.

The Old Hall

The Medieval Old Hall

This atmospheric tour takes you within the oldest building on the estate. Once the original manor house, and reputedly one of the most haunted buildings in England, this experience takes you back through 500 years of Tatton’s history and beyond. Join a Senior Craftsman Gardener on this tour encompassing the generations of history and horticulture within an exquisite 50-acre RHS partner garden. Discover how the Egerton family left their mark on the landscape and how our team continue to care for this special place, preserving it for the future.

The Japanese Garden

A rare invitation to the secluded Japanese Garden.

A unique tour giving you sole access to our world-famous Japanese Garden. Learn about its construction over a hundred years ago by the landscape gardeners from Kyoto and the significance of elements all designed to harmonise with nature.

This immersive tour takes groups beyond the fence of one of the most carefully conserved garden areas.

The Farm

History of the Farm Experience

An interactive and entertaining visit.

Join costumed farmworkers from the 1940s as they immerse you in life here at the Farm. Learn how we’ve been producing food for the estate since the eighteenth century and meet some of the rare breed animals. Complete your experience with a cookery demonstration in the Clydesdale Barn.

This experience explores our Field-to-Fork story as groups travel through each historical farm building.

Tatton Technology at the Mill

A specialist Mill tour.

Our expert guide will take you on a journey through the three-storey agricultural mill. Learn about its technological history from the Victorian era to the pre-war period when the steam-powered machinery was revolutionised by electricity.

This tour spotlights the early 20th century mill and its pioneering technology.

Please note: the mill includes three flights of steep, narrow stairs.

Helpful tips...

Our specialist tours must be booked and paid for in advance of the visit. 

All tours can take approximately 1 to 2 hours to complete. When including a tour into your itinerary, please allow time to make your way from the coach to the attraction, a short walk away, as well as allowing for the duration of the tour itself. 

Please be aware that during the tour, you will be walking and standing for the majority of the time. In some cases we will be able to provide a limited amount of seating. 

In order to make sure that everyone is able to hear their tour guide clearly, have an unrestricted view of the space they are in, and fit comfortably into smaller rooms/areas, we have placed maximum restrictions on the amount of people per tour. These restrictions must be taken into consideration when booking a tour.
