Field to Fork in the Parkland
Our Parkland estate is not only beautiful, it’s also bountiful in terms of the flora and fauna grown and managed there. Historically it has provided a great variety of food items to sustain the Egerton family from fish in the Meres to edible flowers, fungi, wildfowl and much more. And of course our herd of deer were hunted for both sport and sustenance centuries ago; the herd is still managed today with venison being sold in our Housekeeper’s Store and used by the Stables restaurant in a variety of delicious dishes.
The ice house is a hidden gem within the estate, and served as a vital food preservation site for the Mansion until modern refrigeration was installed. You can catch a glimpse of the ice house on our newly created Field to Fork trail, a circular three-mile trail which gives you an insight into the huge variety of food available to the Egerton family on this grand country estate. You can pick up a trail sheet at the Info Cabin on site or view a downloadable PDF (PDF, 3.5 MB) in advance.
