Winter garden collage webpageLecture by David Skidmore entitled 'The Lovell Quinta Arboretum and its National Collections' on Sunday 23rd February 2025 at 2.30pm at the Tenants' Hall, Tatton Park

Mr Skidmore has been Chair of Tatton Garden Society (TGS) since 2019.

Mr Skidmore began his career in research into plant diseases and has taught horticulture and ecology and conservation in both higher and further education institutions. He is now an Emeritus Professor. He is also registered as a Plant Health Professional and advises on plant health, horticulture and environmental and social issues.

Through his work with TGS, and so the Lovell Quinta Arboretum, Mr Skidmore works with organisations with which the Society is closely linked i.e. International Plant Sentinel Network, Botanic Gardens Conservation International and ArbNet.

Mr Skidmore will be talking about the Society’s work with Plant Heritage in being National Collection Holder for three collections at the Arboretum, and the importance of conserving species and varieties for gardens. To put this conservation into context, he will talk about the history of "plant hunters", how plants are named and how new cultivars are bred and then describe what you can see at the Arboretum and in other National Collections.

The talk is free to members, just show your membership card at the Tatton Park entrances for free parking in the main car park.

The talk is £5 for non-members. (Parkland vehicle entry fee applies, pay on the day)
