Tatton Park celebrates Green Flag Award

Today, parks and green spaces across the country will be raising their Green Flag Award with pride in a year when millions of people have seen the value of having great quality green spaces on their doorstep.

Among them will be Tatton Park in Knutsford which is raising a Green Flag Award again.

Going Green to Celebrate

Tonight Tatton Park’s Mansion will be joining buildings and landmarks across the country, including the White Cliffs of Dover at Samphire Hoe, the London Stadium in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and Salford’s Media City, going green for parks to celebrate their Green Flag Award success and to say a massive thank you to the parks staff, volunteers and the Green Flag Award Judges for all their work this year.

The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for their management across the United Kingdom and around the world.

Record-Breaking Year

Tatton Park is one of more than 2,000 sites across the country to collect the award for 2020.

“It takes an estate-wide effort, all year round” explains Simon Jones, Tatton Park Ranger. “As well as the application itself, to win a Green Flag, you must demonstrate excellence across every aspect of a visitor’s experience. From the minute they enter the gates into the Parkland, Farm, Gardens or Mansion, to all aspects of conservation, animal welfare, education and catering, as well as facilities like car parks and toilets. You name it – it’s scrutinised!” says Simon. “It’s very difficult to achieve this award and winning it again in 2020 is great recognition for the hard work put in by all departments, staff and volunteers across the Tatton Park estate.”

Keep Britain Tidy Chief Executive Allison Ogden-Newton OBE said: “This year, more than ever, our parks and green spaces have been a lifeline and we know that millions of people have used them to relax, meet friends, exercise or simply escape for a short time.

“It is testament to the incredible dedication and hard work of parks staff and volunteers that, despite the challenges that went along with record numbers of visitors, Tatton Park has achieved the highest international standards demanded by the Green Flag Award.”

The Tatton Park Vision

The `Tatton Park Vision’ is the park’s 5 year vision for its visitor activities and aims to substantially develop its visitor experience by increasing the attractions and activities on offer. In delivering the vision the aim is to fully realise Tatton Park’s potential and present the best possible experience for its current and new visitors in order to provide new and sustainable income to help manage and conserve the historic estate into the future. This will be done through a programme of investment by Cheshire East Council and the attraction of new business. For more information about the vision visit www.tattonpark.org.uk/vision
