Floating Art Sumi-E

 

This workshop series provides the opportunity to learn about a variety of Japanese art movements and create some beautiful pieces using high quality specialist materials, under expert guidance. On the day of the event, your ticket also includes entry to our award-winning Gardens, so that you can take in our stunning Japanese Garden as inspiration for your work.

Get expressional with some Sumi-E brush painting.

This class will begin with an introduction to bamboo-brushes and our teacher will demonstrate the different brushworks with Sumi ink. The workshop will be split into multiple sessions, each beginning with a teacher demonstration. Each time you will try a different topic which will involve different types of techniques and brush strokes. The first section will be simpler and the difficulty will increase slightly each time, until the final piece. 

This workshop is suitable for everybody, whether you're an aspiring artist looking for a new challenge or you've always wanted to learn how to paint, you'll love this creative workshop experience.

Our teacher Ula is a local artist with over 15 years of teaching experience. Ula has a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Art and a Masters in Visual Art.

Knowledge required: Beginner friendly - all levels welcome. (Aged 16+)

Materials (all provided): Sumi ink and Japanese/Chinese paint on rice paper.

What you'll get: All of the equipment and materials needed for your class & protective equipment such as aprons.

What to bring: Comfortable clothes that you don't mind getting a little paint on & a carrying bag for take your artworks home.
